Hyundai Hope on Wheels to Sponsor Pediatric Cancer Town Hall Meeting at 2014 Aacr Annual Meeting

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – March 19, 2014Hyundai Hope On Wheels®, a leading contributor to pediatric cancer research nationwide, announced today it will sponsor the Pediatric Cancer Town Hall Meeting at the 105th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research to be held April 5-9, 2014 in San Diego, Calif.

The Pediatric Cancer Town Hall meeting will bring together more than 250 leading basic, translational and clinical researchers in academia, industry, pharma and government to foster scientific discussions and help build bridges across various disciplines. The event is part of AACR’s Annual Meeting, this year focused on “Harnessing Breakthroughs” and “Targeting Cures.” In addition to hundreds of invited talks, the conference will feature over 6,000 proffered papers by researchers from all over the world and more than 18,000 attendees.

“We are excited to have Hyundai Hope On Wheels as a supporter and exhibitor at this year’s Annual Meeting,” said Mitch Stoller, Executive Director of the American Association for Cancer Research Foundation. “Our partnership with Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a natural fit given our mutual interest in being at the forefront of pediatric cancer research initiatives.  We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership in our quest to eradicate childhood cancers.”

2014 marks Hyundai Hope On Wheels’ 16th year in the fight against childhood cancer. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Hope On Wheels is among the largest private funders of cancer research in the U.S. The organization is committed to funding innovative research, creating public awareness and stimulating social conversation on the issue.

“We are very enthused about our partnership with the AACR at this year’s conference.  Bringing pediatric cancer research to the forefront of the conversation in the hopes of one day finding a cure is our common goal,” said Dave Zuchowski, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “With 15,000 new cases of cancer expected this year among children and adolescents, research is absolutely critical in helping these children and their families in their battle.”

This year, Hope On Wheels will launch a new campaign that continues to align with its steadfast mission of ending childhood cancer. Hope On Wheels gives a voice to children (and their parents) battling this disease, as well as a platform for parents who have lost children to pediatric cancer. Through its support of hundreds of research grants, awareness activations and the collaboration of some of the nation’s top pediatric oncologists, Hope On Wheels maintains just one wish – to end childhood cancer.

By the end of 2014, Hope On Wheels will surpass $86 million in donations in its pursuit of a cure. Hope On Wheels offers researchers at eligible COG member institutions two types of grants, the Hyundai Scholar Grant and the Hyundai Hope Grant. The first is a $75,000 grant for research or programmatic projects available to young investigators nominated for the award. The second is a $250,000 competitive grant open to all researchers pursuing innovative research with the greatest potential to impact the lives of children battling cancer.
