Hyundai Hope on Wheels Awards $250,000 Research Grant to Uab Physician at Children’s of Alabama in Honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

BIRMINGHAM, AL – September 6, 2016 Hyundai Hope On Wheels® (HHOW) and Birmingham-area Hyundai dealers will present Dr. Kimberly Whelan of UAB and Children’s of Alabama with a $250,000 Scholar Grant to be used to improve care and increase treatment options for kids with cancer. The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama was one of 24 recipients across the country selected by a rigorous scientific review panel to receive this highly competitive Hyundai Scholar Grant. The $250,000 Scholar Grant will be presented during a Handprint Ceremony today, Tuesday, September 6, during which the handprints of local Birmingham-area brave young cancer patients will be captured on a white 2016 Hyundai Tucson – the Hyundai Hope On Wheels hero vehicle – to commemorate their fight against the disease. Hyundai Hope on Wheels Annual 5k/10k Run Raises $154,000 for Pediatric Cancer Research

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – August 31, 2016 – On Sunday, August 28, 2016, Hyundai Hope On Wheels® held its 6th annual 5K/10K Run/Walk in Fountain Valley, California, to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. With more than 500 runners and walkers of all ages participating, the annual event underscored the official kick-off of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Following the race, Hyundai Hope on Wheels presented a check in the amount of $154,000 to the Hyundai Cancer Institute at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), representing the funds raised by the local community through this event.
